The Proteas have adopted the mindset that their T20 International series against India on the subcontinent is a now two-match series.

This comes after Sunday’s series opener in Dharamshala was a total washout as heavy rain made no play impossible.

While the Proteas focus is on the series against India, the new-look national team does have next year’s T20 World Cup in Australia in the back of their minds.

The Proteas captain, Quinton de Kock, says that it is not ideal but it will spice up the rest of the series.

“Obviously it is a bit of negative. We would like to have had a chance at three games against India leading into the World Cup.

“Preparing for a World Cup and losing out on a game in different conditions is not quite ideal, but it is what it is and we are going to have to deal with it.

“I guess it is a two-match series and it is going to be quite interesting now that we’ve only got two games to compare ourselves.

Temba Bavuma, Anrich Nortje, Bjorn Fortuin and George Linde are all set to make their debuts for South Africa in the format after being set to play in the game in Dharamshala.

Wednesday’s 2nd T20 International between India and South Africa in Mohali is scheduled to get underway at 15:30.
