CSA Award nominee, Wandile Makwetu, welcomes the news that professional cricketers may start training again during Level 3 of the national lockdown.

The VKB Knights wicketkeeper was nominated for the Newcomer of the Year Award following a solid season with the bat.

The former SA U19 cricketer also captained the Knights on occasion during the absence of Pite van Biljon.

Makwetu told OFM Sport that he is excited about being given the green-light to train.

“We are very excited but the news that we received over the weekend and welcome the decision.

“Obviously Cricket South Africa and the Knights have told us that they will make sure that all the right structures are in place to make sure that it safe for use to return to training.

“Very excited to be given the green-light to start training again.”

The player was one of three South Africans and Knights to be named in the 2018 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup team of the tournament, also expressed his delight at receiving a first-ever CSA Award nomination.

“Yes, I am excited to be nominated. I am really happy that a decent season is being acknowledged.  Obviously, I would love to win, however, just being nominated is a really big thing for me in itself.

“It motivates me to be even better next season.”

Meanwhile, the Proteas bowling great, Allan Donald, will head to Bloemfontein on Wednesday to take up the role as the Knights head coach.
