Snyman is one of several new faces in the squad for the shortest format, but seeing that this is his first season with a full franchise contract, his rise has been remarkable.

Van Biljon has had some experience in international cricket, but this will be his first tour abroad with the national team.

Van Biljon told OFM Sport that Snyman deserves his call-up.

“Personally, I'm very excited for my first two away with the national team.

“I would like to make a big impact and put in a match-winning performance. A couple would be great.

“Jacques Snyman started like a house on fire this season and he has really hit franchise cricket hard. He is has put in a couple of good performances that have been well rewarded.

“He has really worked extremely hard on his game and he really brings a fear factor to the bowlers.  Hopefully, he can do that and hopefully he gets a chance to show off his skills.

“That puts another feather in the cap of the coaching and management of the Knights.

“We know have four guys pulled up into Proteas squads this season and that is a really good achievement for us.”

Earlier in the season the number three batsman, Raynard van Tonder, and seamer, Migael Pretorius, were called up to the Proteas Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka. Sadly, both players sustained injuries while in camp and were later released back to the franchise.

The first T20 International will be played on 11 February.
