The Titans drew first blood in the 2020/21 CSA T20 Challenge by beating the VKB Knights by 6 wickets in Durban.

The Knights won the toss and elected to have a bat first, but after losing their last eight wickets for 32 runs, managed to post just 116 runs on the board.

Andries Gous top-scored with 35, while the captain, Pite van Biljon added 33.

The Knights had the Titans in trouble at 8/3, but a 76-run stand for the fourth wicket between Dean Elgar and Heinrich Klaasen laid the foundation for the win.

This despite an outstanding opening spell by the Knight seamer, Migael Pretorius, who dismissed Theunis de Bruyn, Aiden Markram and Sibonelo Makhanya within the first three overs of their innings.

Klaasen, who scored 54 not out, says the secret to the win was to keep it simple in the middle with the bat.

“I just told Deano there in the middle that we are one over away, especially with us being in at the backend.

“We didn't have to panic or manufacture a lot of shots. We could keep it simple because we are both experienced players.

“Six or seven runs an over shouldn't be a problem for us if we stay in, and it would have been one over away for us.”

The Knights face the Dolphins tomorrow afternoon in their second match.
