Knights slay the Dragons in Potchefstroom─── MORGAN PIEK 08:12 Mon, 08 Nov 2021
The Itec Knights earned their first win of the 2021/22 CSA Division 1 4-Day series by beating the North West Dragons by 10 wickets in Potchefstroom.
The Knights scored 418/9 in their first innings thanks to 192 not out by Patrick Kruger and 127 by the captain, Pite van Biljon.
In response, the Dragons scored 237 in their first innings and 197/9 in their second innings.
Mbulelo Budaza was the pick of the bowlers for the Knights during the first innings by the Dragons with 4/64 in 15 overs, but it was Kruger who was the star with the ball with 3/12 in 4.2 overs.
During the Dragons second innings, it was the young fast bowler, Gerald Coetzee, who impressed with 4/47 in 16 overs.
Budaza and Jacques Snyman each bagged two scalps.
The Knights chased down the 17 runs needed in their second innings for the win in just 2.1 overs.
Van Biljon told OFM Sport that they haven’t quite ticked all the boxes yet.
“We are very happy with the result, especially with the chaos in our camp on day one.
“With the boxes we need to tick, we probably haven't ticked them yet. We haven't reached our “A-game yet, but it will come.
“As the game went on and as the guys bowled more and more overs, we got better.
“Hopefully we can take this as a step in the right direction.”
Next week the Knights will travel to Durban to face the Dolphins.
