England has a bat first and were restricted to 166/4 in their 20 overs with Moeen Ali scoring an unbeaten 51.

The Kiwis chased down the target with six balls to spare, thanks to a match-winning knock of 73 not out by Daryl Mitchell.

He was supported by Devon Conway with 46 and James Neesham with 26.

The New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson, lauded the heart and character shown by his team, and especially that of Mitchell.

“We've played each other on a number of occasions, so we knew it would be a great game of cricket.

“I am really chuffed with the heart that was shown throughout that performance.

“It was outstanding from Mitchell at the top. His character stood out, an incredible knock.

“T20 cricket is a game of small margins. Jimmy came out and hit the ball hard, and changed the momentum of the game. Ultimately the deciding factor.”

Mitchell is the son of the former All Blacks and Lions (South Africa) coach, John Mitchell.

The Black Caps, who are in the final the first time, will face the winner of Thursday's second semi-final between the unbeaten Pakistan and Australia.
