The North West Dragons and Proteas opening batter, Lizelle Lee, has been named as the International Cricket Councils Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year.

The Potchefstroom-based player scored a staggering 632 runs in 11 matches in 2021 at an average of 90.28 runs.

She scored five fifties and a century to become the first South African to win the accolade.

The ever-humble Lee said the award is an honour.

“I have no words to be honest with you, I didn't expect this.

“The award could have gone to anyone, so it does mean a lot to me and it's amassive honour.

“Winning the ODI Cricketer of the Year award is amazing and there are so many people I can give credit to.

“It's really an honour.”

Lee is currently the leading batter in the world in women’s One-Day International cricket.

On Sunday, the Proteas men’s opening batter, Janneman Malan, who also previously played for North West, was named as the ICC’s Emerging Player of the Year.
