Another dominant display by the Western Province Blitz at St George’s Park in Gqeberha has ended the Itec Knights chances in the CSA T20 Challenge.

On Friday, Province beat the Knights by six wickets for a bonus point win as they remain unbeaten in the competition.

The Knights had a bat first in the much-win match and once again failed to produce with the willow as they were restricted to 126/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Knight captain, Pite van Biljon, with 40 off of 35 deliveries and the all-rounder, Patrick Kruger, with 34 off of 21 balls, were the only two batters to take the game to the Province bowling attack.

Apart from the opening batter, Jacques Snyman, with 20 runs, no other batter managed to score double-figures.

The leg-spinner, Junaid Dawood, was simply outstanding for Blitz with 3/28 in his four overs, while the captain, Wayne Parnell, led from the front with 2/16 in his four overs.

Province has no trouble whatsoever in chasing down the target in 15.5 overs to secure the valuable bonus point.

Jonathan Bird top-scored with 43 runs, while Tony de Zorzi contributed with 41.

Alfred Mothoa was the best bowler for the Knights with 2/3 in his complement of four overs.

The 22-year-old Knights batter, CP Klijnhans, was once again the talk of the town, but this time not for his batting. Klijnhans took three catches in the Province innings, of which not one, but two were outstanding one-handed attempts in the deep to dismiss Bird and De Zorzi.

With four defeats in five outings the Knights chances of reaching the knockout round are over. They still have to face the Lions and Paarl Rocks in the competition, but these two matches will serve as nothing more than a mere formality.
