The Proteas are in a commanding position heading into day five of the 1st Test against Bangladesh at Kingsmead in Durban, and a victory is in sight.

The Proteas need seven wickets on the final day to win the Test and go 1-0 up in the series.

South Africa was bowled out for just 204 runs in their second innings with Dean Elgar top-scoring with 64. In the first inning Elgar scored 67, and this makes him the leading South African batter in the series thus far.

Ryan Rickelton chipped in with a knock of 39 not out while Keegan Petersen contributed with 36.

Bangladesh was in deep trouble at the close of play on 11/3 in six overs with Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer doing the damage.

Maharaj had figures of 2/7 after 3 overs, while Harmer had 1/4 after his 3 overs.

For Bangladesh, Mahmudul Hasan Joy (4), Shadman Islam (0), and the captain Mominul Haque (2) were all back in the hut.

Proteas batting consultant Justin Sammons said that it wasn't an easy day for batting.

“It's gradually turned more as the game has gone on as you have seen, so there has been some difficulty in that.

“Then from a seam point of view they hit good lengths. In Durban it is hard. That scoring rate is tough because hitting straight down the ground there is not that much reward in terms of pace.

"I think from a scoring point of view it was difficult.”

The Tigers need 263 runs to win the Test. Play resumes at 10:00 on Monday morning.
