The Proteas beat Bangladesh by 220 runs on Monday on day five, the 1st Test at Kingsmead in Durban to go 1-0 up in the two-Test series.

On Monday morning, the Proteas needed less than an hour on the park to remove the last seven Bangladeshi wickets to claim the win and take the lead in the series.

Keshav Maharaj led the charge with 7/32 in 10 overs, while Simon Harmer took three wickets for 21 runs in 9 overs as the Tigers were bowled out for just 53 in their second innings.

Maharaj, who was the player of the Test, said it was a special win at this home ground.

“It was very emotional for me and I love playing here - it's my home”, said South Africa’s new leading spin bowler in the post-isolation era.

“To have my family witness me help the team win made it even more special. I heard before that our record here at Kingsmead is not great.

“I'm just pleased I could change that perception and perhaps prompt the guys to want to come play more here in future.”

The win was South Africa's first at Kingsmead since 2013 and just their second in their last ten Tests at the venue.

The 2nd Test at St George’s Park starts on Friday morning.
