The Proteas coach, Mark Boucher, has conceded that the Test squads’ success over the past season have been bittersweet.

This is due to the off-field saga in which Boucher has to face a disciplinary hearing next month and he could face the axe despite the team's good performances and Test series wins against India and Bangladesh.

During the summer the Proteas beat India at home, while they played to a 1-1 draw against reigning World Test champions, the Black Caps in New Zealand and wrapped up proceedings with a 2-0 series win against Bangladesh.

Boucher faces a disciplinary hearing on charges of gross misconduct following Cricket South Africa's Social Justice and Nation-building (SJN) hearings last year.

On Monday, in what could be Boucher’s last match in charge of the Proteas, they thumped Bangladesh by 332 runs in the 2nd Test to claim the series.

Boucher said it is difficult for him to enjoy the moment.

“Yes, the past few months have been tough,” said the former Proteas wicketkeeper.

“I've really enjoyed coaching the guys.

“On the cricketing side of things - we've got a very tight unit coming together. I've enjoyed being around them and seeing their development.

“Outside of that - it would be quite difficult for me to say that I've enjoyed it. I believe that's just me being honest. I don't think anyone in my situation can enjoy things with what's been put on my plate.

“I've enjoyed the cricket things and that's it.”

Boucher’s hearing is scheduled to take place on 16 May.
