The Proteas have taken a two-nil lead in the T20 International series against India. On Sunday night the Proteas won the 2nd T20 International by four-wickets in Cuttack thanks to an outstanding 81 by Heinrich Klaasen.

India scored 148/6 in their allotted 20 overs with Shreyas Iyer scoring 40. South Africa chased down the target with 10 balls to spare.

The captain Temba Bavuma scored 35 runs upfront, while David Miller was unbeaten with 20 runs.

Klaasen hit 7 fours and 5 sixes in his innings to guide South Africa to a commanding lead in the five-match series.

Anrich Nortjé was the pick of the Proteas bowlers with 2/36 in his four overs, while Kagiso Rabada, Wayne Parnell, Dwaine Pretorius and Keshav Maharaj each bagged one scalp.

Klaasen said the plan was to get stuck into the spinners.

“I decided that if I go out today, I would rather go out my way and tried to be positive. It is just one of those days that it came off.

“I also knew and I said to Temba (Bavuma) that the spinners are the guys that we needed to target. “The seamers were a little bit up-and-down so we could also take less risk against them.

“If we could take the spinners down mostly then most of the work would be done.”

The 3rd T20 International will be played in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.
