Stokes backs the return of Robinson─── MORGAN PIEK 07:51 Thu, 25 Aug 2022
England will look to exploit the conditions when they face South Africa from Thursday at Old Trafford in the 2nd Test.
The English made one change to their playing XI with Ollie Robinson coming in at the expense of Matthew Potts.
The ground is generally regarded to be better suited to seam bowlers and this is something that the hosts want to use to their advantage.
The English captain, Ben Stokes, explains the selection of Robinson.
“We think what Ollie offers as a bowler is he gets the most bounce out of our attack,” said the all-rounder Stokes.
“We think at Old Trafford generally it is a slightly quicker wicket than other grounds we play at and he offers a lot more bounce.
“Ollie became a very popular member of the group in a very short space of time after he made his debut last summer. He's fitted right back into the group even though he's had a long time out.
“And he's deserved his call-up to the squad. Everything that we've seen in the training days and how he's been around the group is exactly what we want.
“I think we all know the quality of a bowler he is because when he has played for England his skill set is incredible.”
South Africa leads the series one-nil. Play in Manchester is scheduled to get underway at noon.
