Proteas will have to make some tough decisions─── MORGAN PIEK 07:48 Mon, 29 Aug 2022
The Proteas captain, Dean Elgar, has conceded that some tough decisions will need to be made ahead of the 3rd and series-deciding Test against England.
On the weekend, the English level the series with a comprehensive inning and 85-run win against South Africa at Old Trafford in Manchester.
The Proteas won the 1st Test by an innings and 12 runs at Lord’s in London.
At Old Trafford, the Proteas' batting let them down and this is an aspect they need to remedy in the next week.
Elgar said they will have to rethink their batting line-up.
“A few tough decisions will be coming our way," Elgar said.
“With Rassie van der Dussen ruled out, we have to replace him. That's a definite.
“Whether that's the only one we will make... but we've got a few days. We've got nearly two weeks. We'll go away and get our options and try and get better combinations.
“The bottom line is we need runs from that middle order and that is letting us down quite a bit, to be frank and bold and honest. That's the truth.
“As much as guys don't want to hear it, they know that already. But for now, Rassie's position has to be filled. Whether that's the only spot, we are not sure just yet.”
The 3rd Test starts on 8 September at the Oval.
