Oval Test suspended in respect for the late Queen─── MORGAN PIEK 21:16 Thu, 08 Sep 2022
There will be no play on day two of the 3rd and final Test between England and South Africa at the Oval in Kensington on Friday.
This follows the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizbeth II on Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at the age of 96.
This will be as a sign of respect as the United Kingdom mourns.
Cricket South Africa confirmed that no play will take place on Friday and further updates will be provide in due course.
Rain was the winner of day one with the only action out in the middle action being the toss between the two captain's Ben Stokes of England and Dean Elgar of South Africa. The toss was won by Stokes and he invited South Africa to have a bat first.
Shorlty after the toss the rain started and eventually play was abandoned for the day.
The rain and the death of the Queen means that none of the three Tests in the series will be played over the full five days.
The 3rd Test series is currently deadlocked at one win a piece with South Africa having been victories at Lord's will the English leveled matters at Old Trafford.
