Knights edged the Rocks in a thriller─── MORGAN PIEK 08:30 Thu, 27 Oct 2022
The ITEC Knights remain unbeaten at the CSA T20 Challenge in Potchefstroom following a thrilling 4-run win over the Paarl Rocks at the JB Marks Oval on Wednesday night.
The Knights had to bat first and scored 179/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
The opening batter, Jacques Snyman, smashed 4 fours and 3 sixes in his innings on 53 runs.
Raynard van Tonder supported Snyman well with a knock of 45 runs, which included 6 fours and 2 sixes, while the captain, Aubrey Swanepoel, had a very handy knock of 33 runs.
With figures of 4/30 in 4 overs, Bamanye Xenxe was the pick of the bowlers for the Rocks.
Robyn Copeland scored 36 runs and the spinner, Imran Manack, added 30 runs to the score as the Rocks took the run chase down to the wire. Manack's knock put the Rocks in a position to win the game, but four late wickets by the Knights saw them win the game.
Gerald Coetzee took 4/36 for the Knights, while Mbulelo Budaza, Swanepoel and his half-brother, Patrick Kruger, each took two wickets.
While the match went down to the wire, what the Knights managed to do well was take wickets at crucial stages in the game.
The Knights have now won two of their four matches, while two games were declared a no-result due to inclement weather.
The Knights' next match at the JB Marks Oval is on Friday at 18:00 when they come up against the second-placed Dolphins.
