The 22-year-old Coetzee made his senior international debut for South Africa during the 2-0 Test series win over the West Indies on the highveld.

Coetzee took nine wickets in total while he also weighed in with 40-runs off the bat.

His performance has led him to being included in the upcoming One-Day International and T20 International series against the Windies.

Bavuma, who scored a career-highest 172 in the second Test, said Coetzee excites him. “I'm very excited," said the captain who contributed with a fine knock of 172 runs. “I think our bowling attack has always been one that has the potential to keep us in games.

“With the batting there have been concerns, but with our bowling we know that if those guys click, we always have a chance within the game.

“A guy like Gerald adds an extra dimension within our bowling attack.

“He brings us pace and he brings us aggression, and that's exactly why we brought him into the squad.”

The first ODI will be played on Thursday at Buffalo Park in East London.
