Marsh to captain Australia for T20's in SA─── MORGAN PIEK 11:31 Tue, 08 Aug 2023
The all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh, has been named as the Australian T20 International captain for their tour to South Africa which starts later this month.
Marsh replaced Aaron Finch in the role, after the latter retired from international cricket earlier in the year.
At this stage, Marsh will only be the skipper for the team three T20 Internationals, while Cricket Australia is yet to confirm the squad for the One-Day International series.
Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and David Warner have been rested for T20's against the Proteas.
Cummins is not available as he is recovering from a fractured wrist, but he could be ready for the five-match ODI series.
The former captain, Steve Smith, will tour and he has been assigned a new role for the three games.
Smith, will open the batting in South Africa and this is an unsual move as he normally bats lower down the order at three or four, and this will be the first time in his career that he will fill the role at the highest level.
The 1st T20 International will be played on 30 August at Kingsmead in Durban, while the 1st ODI will be played on 7 September at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
