Proteas switch to World Cup mode─── MORGAN PIEK 15:00 Mon, 18 Sep 2023
“It will hit us once we get on the plane - normally that’s how it works for me personally. Beforehand I'm very chilled, but I know it's coming. Once we get there it hits me in the face full-on and then it starts to kick in.”
The Proteas will start to turn their focus to the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India now following their successful One-Day International series against Australia.
On the weekend the Proteas won the five-match ODI series 3-2 following a 164-run win at SuperSport Park and an 122-run victory at the Wanderers.
The Proteas will jet off to the subcontinent next week and they will fine-tune in two warm-up games that will be played against Afghanistan and New Zealand.
The Proteas left-arm seamer, Marco Jansen, admitted that he is nervous ahead of the global showpiece.
“It is definitely getting real for us now, although it's still a week or so before we fly,” said the player who has established himself as an allrounder.
“It will hit us once we get on the plane - normally that’s how it works for me personally. Beforehand I'm very chilled, but I know it's coming. Once we get there it hits me in the face full-on and then it starts to kick in.
“It's my first ODI World Cup and I am very excited, but I'm also very nervous because I don't know what to expect, even though I've played there in India a couple of times.
“I'm just going to be exciting and fun. I'm really looking forward to it.”
The Proteas will face Sri Lanka in Delhi on 7 October in their first game of the World Cup.
