Proteas seek to get back on the horse─── MORGAN PIEK 13:18 Thu, 19 Oct 2023
“Don't think there is any point in trying to forget what's happened - It is going to hurt and it should hurt.”
The Proteas have turned their attention fully to England for their next ICC Cricket World Cup clash in Mumbai.
On Tuesday the Proteas suffered their first defeat at the World Cup with a shock 38-run loss to the Netherlands in Dharamsala. This was a first win for the Dutch against a Test playing nation at the 50-over World Cup and it will no doubt boost their confidence.
Up until Tuesday the Proteas were unbeaten and their performance against the Netherlands was a stark contrast to their outings against Sri Lanka and Australia.
The important thing for the Proteas is to leave the defeat in the past and shift their focus to the reigning World Champion, who in turn have lost twice, which includes a shock defeat to Afghanistan.

The Proteas skipper, Temba Bavuma, said it’s important for the team to climb back onto the horse.
“You got to let the emotion kind of seep in,” said Bavuma.
“Don't think there is any point in trying to forget what's happened - It is going to hurt and it should hurt.
“But then you come back tomorrow, you wake up and we get back onto the journey. Our campaign is not over by any stretch of the imagination, but you got to feel the emotion of today and come back tomorrow with the head held up.”
The English will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they face South Africa as they still have games to play against Australia, India and Pakistan.
A defeat will put their title defence in jeopardy and it would take an extraordinary effort to come back, considering the level of opponent that awaits.

The English skipper said Buttler said that they have reached a point with these two defeats in three games, it is do-or-die time and it is important to keep the belief.
“It's a big setback obviously. Before the tournament starts you have a different idea of how the first three games would pan out.
“We've got to show a lot of character, a lot of resilience within the team and most of all a lot of belief.
“There was a lot of excellent players in there and we haven't played well enough today but we must keep that belief.”
Saturday’s match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai gets underway at 10:30.
Meanwhile, the Blacks Cap of New Zealand recorded their fourth win with a 149-run victory against Afghanistan in Chennai.
Glenn Phillips scored 71-runs as the Black Caps reached 288/6 in their 50 overs, while in reply only Rahmat Shah troubled the scorers with 36-runs as Afghanistan were bowled out for 139 in 34.4 overs.
Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers with 3/19 in 7 overs.
On Thursday at 10:30, the host India will face the Tigers of Bangladesh in Pune.
