Piedt spins Windies 'A' to pieces on day two─── MORGAN PIEK 08:01 Thu, 30 Nov 2023
“It was a very good day for me personally, but I honestly couldn't have done it without the help of the fast bowlers who set the tone for us. The likes of Dane Paterson, Tsepho Moreki and Mihlali Mpongwana did a great job in setting the tone for us.”
South Africa 'A' are in the pound seats after day two of the second unofficial Test against the West Indies 'A' being played in East London.
South Africa were bowled out for 298-runs in their first innings after adding just 32-runs to their overnight score.
The former Knights Keegan Petersen and Raynard van Tonder top-scored for South Africa with 67 and 50 respectively, while Tony de Zorzi chipped in with a knock of 44 and Ruan de Swardt of the North West Dragons scored 42.
Akeem Jordan was the pick of the Windies bowlers with 3/43 in 23.2 overs, while Shamar Joseph took 3/57 in 23 overs.
The Windies in turn were bowled out for 154-runs in their first innings after losing their last seven wickets for just 50-runs.
Upfront, Zachary McCaskie, scored 62-runs for the visitors Kavem Hodge contributed with 25. The 14-runs scored by Abhijai Mansingh and Jordan, were the only other scores above 7-runs.
The Knights spinner, Dane Piedt, stole the show with 5/28 in 12.2 overs.
Piedt told OFM Sport that the fast bowlers set the tone for him to be aggressive and attacking with the ball.
“It was a very good day for me personally, but I honestly couldn't have done it without the help of the fast bowlers who set the tone for us,” said Piedt.
“The likes of Dane Paterson, Tsepho Moreki and Mihlali Mpongwana did a great job in setting the tone for us.
“That's where I could be aggressive and attacking and then try to take the game away from the opposition, which I did.
“Hopefully the batters can cash in and make it a very successful day three for us.”
South Africa will resume their second innings at 10:00 on Thursday morning with the score on 65/1 and 209-run lead.
Windies ‘A’ lead the three-match series 1-0 following a one wicket win at Willowmoore Park in Benoni last week.
