The Proteas have hinted that they may opt to pick two frontline spinners going forward at the ICC T20 World Cup which is currently being played in the West Indies.

The tournament is moving into the Super 8’s stage and South Africa will be in action against the USA on Wednesday in Antigua.

While Keshav Maharaj has been fancied throughout the World Cup, Tabraiz Shamsi impressed with 4/19 in South Africa’s most recent match against Nepal.

The Proteas captain, Aiden Markram, said playing two spinners is an option.

“Yeah, for sure, moving forward, if conditions are going to be like that, we'd love to pick the both of them,” said Markram.

“I've explained the reasons behind the switch for the two of them to give Shamsi some game time, but if the wickets are going to be playing like that, we back the both of them to be in our XI and to make a massive impact for us.”

Markram added that the dream of winning a first-ever senior cricket World Cup is a big goal of the Proteas and they are confident that they can get the job done, but it remains important just to focus on the next game.

“It is the dream, 100% - you take it game-by-game and you compete as hard and as best as you can.

“You ultimately see where it gets you, but I'm looking forward to that phase now of the competition.

“Really grateful that we are in the Super 8’s and hoping that we can put a more complete game of cricket together now that we move forward to the business end of the competition.

Wednesday’s game between South Africa and the USA at North Sound is scheduled to get underway at 16:30.
