Proteas back batters to fire in Harare─── MORGAN PIEK 10:11 Sat, 19 Jul 2025

The Proteas aren’t too concerned about their top-order batting as they gear up for their third match of the T20 International Tri-Series in Harare.
In both of their previous matches against hosts Zimbabwe and New Zealand, South Africa struggled with the bat and lost early wickets. While the pitches have been a bit tricky, the conditions have posed the same challenge to all teams.
Proteas all-rounder and former North West Dragons coach, Senuran Muthusamy, told OFM Sport that the batters will find their rhythm.
“If you look at the games played so far, it’s been slightly tougher to bat against the new ball,” said Muthusamy, who made his T20 International debut against New Zealand.
“I think the pronounced seam and the hardness of the ball have made it react a bit quicker, which has made it tougher to get away at times over the past few games at this venue.
“But it’s not something we’ve specifically pointed out or addressed. We back the guys in those positions to get it right. There’s a lot of quality in this group.

“I know we’re missing quite a few players, but everyone here has contributed in their own way towards winning games. I’m sure we’ll get it right. The other day’s game didn’t go according to plan, but it’s all part of the journey – and great for our growth.”
South Africa are looking to bounce back after a 21-run defeat to New Zealand on Wednesday. With just two matches remaining in the short series, the Proteas will be eager to finish on a high.
Muthusamy added that the focus remains firmly on Sunday’s game.
“The obvious goal is to win. That’s definitely at the forefront of our thinking,” he said.
“We’re not looking too far ahead. The most important game is the next one, which is on Sunday. So it’s about being well-prepared and giving our best, no matter which 11 or which combinations are selected to execute on the day.
“That’s how we keep grounded and are just focusing on what’s next.”
South Africa and Zimbabwe will face off again on Sunday at 13:00 at the Harare Sports Club.
