Matters evenly poised after day one at the Mangaung Oval─── MORGAN PIEK 10:03 Fri, 17 Oct 2025
The CSA 4-Day clash between the Knights and the Limpopo Impalas was finely poised at stumps on day one at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
After the opening day, the visitors from Polokwane held a commanding 177-run lead, with 12 wickets tumbling in an entertaining day of red-ball cricket. The Impalas, having won the toss, opted to bat first and were eventually bowled out for 223 off 75.3 overs.
Former Knight CP Klijnhans led from the front with a determined 55 off 111 balls, frustrating the hosts with his patient approach before falling lbw to Knights captain Dane Piedt.
Emmanuel Motswiri contributed a stubborn 42 off 105 deliveries, while number 10 Daniel van der Merwe gave the innings a late flourish with a brisk 25 off just 23 balls.

Piedt was the standout for the Knights, claiming 4/68 in his 28-over spell, but he was ably supported by the fiery pace of Joe van Dyk, who impressed again with 4/41.
The Knights’ reply got off to a shaky start, with big-hitting opener Jacques Snyman failing to make an impact once more, trapped lbw for 8 by Maphekgola Pootona in the fourth over.
Ruan Haasbroek followed in the seventh over, dismissed for seven in similar fashion off Marcello Piedt, leaving the Knights reeling at 20 for 2.
At stumps, the innings had steadied slightly, with opening batter Isaac Dikgale unbeaten on 22 off 48 balls.
Debutant Ruben Maree showed promise at the other end, remaining 5 not out after 29 deliveries, as the Knights reached 46/2 after 16 overs.
After a day of disciplined bowling, patient batting, and a few early nerves, the match is set for an intriguing second day when play resumes at 10:00 on Friday morning at the Mangaung Oval.
