Sister Salome Siebritz from Uitenhage near Port Elizabeth, is being hailed a hero after she drove through the night so two patients can get life-saving kidney transplants in Cape Town after no other transport could be found.

They arrived with just minutes to spare.

There were only 12 hours available for the two patients to get the life-saving kidney transplants they needed and there was no way for them to get to Cape Town from Port Elizabeth.

Siebritz volunteered to drive the patients 800 kilometres to Chris Barnard Hospital in Cape Town despite just having finished an eight-hour shift.

A doctor, other staff members and even patients clubbed in to pay for petrol and accommodation.

One of those who made it just in time is 29-year-old Cally Williams.

Williams says without Sister Siebritz stepping in to help, her dream of being a healthy mom to her eight-year-old daughter would never have come true.
