Simple tweet echoes Ubuntu─── 14:32 Wed, 19 Jun 2019
A desperate Tweet on Sunday, requesting just R10 for electricity, stirred up the hearts of those on Twitter.
People started donating more electricity tokens than what the 33-year-old Thabisa Xhelithole of Cape Town ever expected.
Xhelithole explains that she has no words to express the love that people from all walks of life have shown. All race groups have supported this initiative. The funds that she received were also able to cover half of her son’s school fees for this year.
Our view of South Africa is somewhat negative at times - that we as a nation are distant and have no sympathy towards the needs of others.
Former Archbishop Desmond Tutu describes Ubuntu as “the essence of being human and, as a human being, you cannot exist in isolation”. The support towards Xhelithole again shows us that we are connected and when you do well, it spreads across all of humanity.
Below is Morning Live’s interview with Thabisa Xhelithole.
