University spokesperson, Louis Jacobs, says the musician’s image and utterances are in contrast with the inclusive space the university is working hard to build at its campuses and that the university cannot associate itself with any artist or any other individual whose actions are not in line with the values of the university. He, nonetheless, tells OFM News Hofmeyr will still be paid in honour of the contract in place, despite the concert being cancelled. He was due to perform at the university’s residence as part of its annual July festival.

Hofmeyr has in the past years drawn much controversy over his views on racism, inequality, interracial relations and other issues. He was under fire recently for his tweets about Zindzi Mandela and DA MP Phumzile van Damme and the death threats he made.

The ANC previously communicated that they will be laying a charge of crimen injuria against Hofmeyr today after he last week Tuesday tweeted:

“Dear Phumzile van Damme and Zindzi Mandela, I’m a South African tax-paying citizen. Effectively, I AM your boss. You WILL jump when I say so and you WILL ask how high. And when you come to take our lives and land, you WILL die. Our contract is that simple. And don't you forget it.”
