Anyone attempting to bribe an officer to be arrested, warns SAPS | News Article

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has issued a stern warning to anyone thinking of bribing a police officer.

This as the SAPS in Gauteng kicked off it's Provincial Safer Festive operations on Friday.

According to Brigadier Mathapelo Peters, they have been arresting members of the public who try and bribe police officers and she warns: "They should not even try it."

"Our business is crime. We going to address crime, whether it's from within the police or outside. Anyone who attempts to bribe a police officer, will get arrested," says Peters.

Peters said the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, joined them in the launch of their festive campaign, where they will be focussing not only on broad crime-fighting activities but also those linked to serious and violent crimes, like the illegal trade in alcohol.

"We do find that a number of crimes, especially violent crimes, and crimes committed against women and children, are committed while people are under the influence of alcohol," she explained.
