Vodacom Origins series pitches in to support SA women's golf─── 16:16 Wed, 21 Aug 2019
South African women’s professional golf has taken another positive step forward as professionals from the Sunshine Ladies Tour have for the first time been invited to compete with the men in the pro-am of the Vodacom Origins of Golf series.
The Sunshine Ladies Tour professionals will participate in the five 36-hole pro-ams on the Origins of Golf Series, which is this year celebrating its 16th anniversary as the Sunshine Tour’s longest-running consecutive series of pro-am tournaments.
They will have the double incentive of competing with their pro-am team for the betterball prize money on offer, as well as in their own internal competition with exclusive prize money for the Sunshine Ladies Tour professionals.
“It’s great for us to have the opportunity to play for prize money at this time of the year in South Africa, and it’s improving the future of South African women’s golf. It’s an opportunity to play and the chance to earn prize money at the same time, which is very exciting,” said Casandra Hall, who was amongst the Sunshine Ladies Tour professionals who teed it up in this year’s first Origins of Golf Pro-Am at Sishen Golf Club on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The Sunshine Ladies Tour events are played in the beginning of the year, so it’s nice to play these tournaments now and get your game ready for the next Sunshine Ladies Tour. Also, these events are perfect for me because I want to go over to the Ladies European Tour qualifying school at the end of the year. So it’s awesome to have these competitive tournaments at this time before going over there.”
Lora Assad was also in Sishen this week.
“It’s great to be a part of the Vodacom Origins of Golf series. This is definitely a positive step for us and we’re very grateful to be part of the men’s Sunshine Tour like this. I’m also going over to the Ladies European Tour qualifying school at the end of the year, so the timing of this series is perfect for me. I’m very excited.”
