Higgo and Burmester qualify for PGA Championship─── MORGAN PIEK 16:23 Wed, 12 May 2021
Garrick Higgo and Dean Burmester have officially qualified for next week’s PGA Championship at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island in South Carolina, USA. The pair will be joined by nine other South Africans to play in the year's second major.
For Burmester, it will be his first major since playing in the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills in New York.
Following the Canary Islands Championship over the weekend, Burmester, said it would be a bonus if he qualifies for the major.
“If I get there I will be super excited.
“I’ve seen pictures and stuff of the golf course and it looks unbelievable.
“I’ve never been to South Carolina, so hopefully if the form continues it will be a fun week.”
Higgo turned 22-years-old on Wednesday and will see the entry into his first major as the perfect birthday present.
The world number 51, Higgo, will be the third highest-ranked South African in the field behind Louis Oosthuizen and Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
The other South Africans that have qualified are George Coetzee, Dylan Frittelli, Branden Grace, Charl Schwartzel, Brandon Stone, Erik van Rooyen and Daniel van Tonder.
