'It's nice to be able to play in a major again' - Nienaber─── MORGAN PIEK 08:16 Thu, 15 Jun 2023
The Bloemfontein professional, Wilco Nienaber, is locked and loaded to tee it up in the US Open at the Los Angeles Country Club in California this week.
The 23-year-old Nienaber will be playing in just his second major, after making his debut at the US Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego in 2021.
He is one of just four South Africans to have qualified for the major with the others being Thriston Lawrence, Deon Germishuys, and amateur, Aldrich Potgieter.
Nienaber told OFM Sport that he is feeling good going into the year’s third major.
“I'm very excited and it's nice to be able to play in a major again,” said Nienaber from Los Angeles.
“Hopefully, I can use what I learned during this week's first major. It's still just golf though, and I'm playing well at the moment.
“I've improved and it's just nice to have the opportunity to play against the world's best.
“At the end of the day, I just have to remind myself that it's still just golf.”
The US Open tees off tomorrow and Nienaber will be on the 1st tee at 21:48 along with Luke List of the USA and Alejandro Del Rey of Spain.
