What all started as a project to keep author Nancy Gaylard busy during the lockdown period, has now turned into an inspirational book that not only informs and educates others but also brings hope.

Once Upon a Sign - Ayen's first day, is a book written by Nancy Gaylard, which was published in September 2022 and tells a powerful story of a young deaf girl’s first day at a new school. With Ayen being deaf, a new school and new friends are a daunting task. This book shares the journey of those who are living with disabilities and what they have to overcome on a daily basis.

The journey began when Nancy met a deaf person for the first time in her life and realized later that her interaction could have been better. She then went on a journey to educate herself about deaf people and spent a year learning sign language. Nancy has since been involved in numerous programs to help assist the deaf with opportunities in the workplace and more.
