One animal at a Time: Help Kami Rescue with Love makes a difference | News Article

For many people, seeing a stray dog or cat on the streets is heartbreaking. They might stop, offer some food, share a post on social media or wonder where that animal came from. But for Kami Rescue with Love, this is everyday life.

Kami goes into communities around Bloemfontein where some of the most vulnerable animals are living, often finding animals that are sick, injured, abandoned, frightened or simply struggling to survive and rescuing them is only the beginning.

Behind every rescue is a long list of expenses: veterinary treatment, medication, food, transport, vaccinations, fostering and, of course, the ongoing care these animals need until they can find safe and loving homes.  It is an enormous commitment – emotionally, physically and financially.

But there is another side to the problem that is even harder to solve: the number of animals needing help continues to grow.  That is why Kami Rescue with Love is putting the focus on prevention with its Spring Spay-a-Thon.

Spaying and neutering dogs and cats is one of the most important steps to be taken to reduce the number of unwanted litters and, ultimately, the number of animals ending up on the streets.  Because every unwanted litter can mean more puppies and kittens who need homes. And when there simply aren’t enough homes, those animals can end up abandoned, neglected or exposed to cruelty.

Rescuers can only save so many animals. The long-term solution has to include stopping the cycle before it starts.  That is where the Spring Spay-a-Thon comes in.

The goal is to raise funds to sterilise as many vulnerable animals as possible — giving them a better chance at a safe life while helping to reduce the number of unwanted animals in the future.  And you don't have to make a huge donation to make a difference.

A small contribution, when combined with those of other animal lovers, can help pay for veterinary procedures and give another dog or cat a chance.  For Kami and the team at Kami Rescue with Love, this isn't simply about numbers. Every animal has a face, a personality and a life that matters.

If you can help, please consider contributing to the Spring Spay-a-Thon. sm
