"A 45-year-old from Walvis Bay was presented at the Walvis Bay State Hospital on July 5 with complaints of dizziness, difficulty in breathing and cough. On July 8, he became restless, hyperventilating, and died on the same day," he said.

"I call upon the public to internalise the fact that the pandemic is real and that the reported death must strengthen our resolve to comply with preventive measures and co-operate with those at the forefront of the response."

He announced 52 new cases, with 49 cases in Walvis Bay, one from Oshakati and two from a quarantine facility in Okahandja who had recently travelled from India.

The country has now recorded 667 Covid-19 cases, including one death and 25 recoveries. A total of 12,789 samples have been taken and 825 people are in quarantine.

Lesotho reported its first Covid-19-related death on Wednesday.

Until this week they were the only two countries in Southern Africa without Covid-19 deaths.

Lesotho has recorded 184 Covid-19 infection cases, with one death and 26 recoveries. A total of 5,206 tests have been conducted.

Meanwhile, Malawi media reported that the country has registered 44 new cases of Covid-19 and four new deaths, taking the death toll to 29.

According to Malawi24, two people were from Blantyre and the other two from Lilongwe.

Malawi has recorded 1,986 cases, of which 717 were imported and 1,196 were locally transmitted. The country has conducted 18,814 tests to date.
