Obama heads to Tanzania─── 07:36 Mon, 01 Jul 2013

Johannesburg - US president Barack Obama heads to Tanzania today on the last leg of his African tour.
This after spending the weekend in South Africa paying homage to ailing former president Nelson Mandela, the political hero who drew Obama into politics.
He decided not to visit Madiba, who lies critically ill in a Pretoria hospital, but paid repeated tribute to his legacy, painting him as one of history's most important political figures.
Yesterday, Obama stood in the tiny cell once occupied by Mandela on Robben Island, and took his daughters to the lime quarry where Mandela worked.
Later, in a speech at Cape Town University, Obama used Mandela's political legacy and South Africa's emergence from apartheid rule as proof that freedom will ultimately prevail.
