Spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Phemelo Manankong, says the annual event seeks to acknowledge the contribution of women to agriculture and poverty eradication.
He says the adjudication visits have highlighted the courage and determination of entrants:
He says another entrant has grown from being a farm worker to a farmer in her own right:
'From farm worker to farmer'
Manankong says awards are presented across several categories, including best female farmworker, subsistence farmer, top smallholder entrepreneur, top export entrepreneur and more, with each category winner going on to represent the province in the national awards later this year.
He says provincial winners will be announced in Kuruman on August 6.
