Health departments in the country are to receive R8 billion to deal with Covid-19.

According to the Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, R10.3 billion has been set aside for vaccines over the next two years to administer the Covid-19 vaccine rollout programme. Presenting his 2021/22 budget in Parliament on Wednesday, Mboweni said the government will also put in place a "no-fault compensation fund to cover claims in the event of any severe vaccine injuries".

Whilst opposition parties have commended him for allocating a budget for the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out programme, many have criticised him for failing to speak on Covid-19 related corruption.

The EFF's Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Freedom Front Plus' Pieter Groenewald are amongst the politicians who have weighed in on how Mboweni has, in their view, failed to address the issues of corruption, escalating unemployment, and how he plans to curb irregular expenditure.
