More pushback expected from #Magashule - political analysts─── 11:02 Thu, 06 May 2021
The pushback from Ace Magashule against the decision by the African National Congress (ANC) to suspend him as Secretary-General comes as no surprise, according to political analysts.
Magashule, who received his letter of suspension from the party on Wednesday, fired back by writing a letter to ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa.
In the letter, Magashule slams the move to suspend him while also instituting a counter suspension against Ramaphosa.
He informed Ramaphosa that his decision to suspend him relates to the CR17 sealed bank statements.
Political analyst Levy Ndou says more pushback should be expected from Magashule.
"He has consistently defied the ANC and its resolutions. If Ace Magashule understood the resolution well, he should have stepped aside the day he appeared in court in Mangaung," says Ndou.
Political analyst Ralph Mathekga believes the move to try and suspend Ramaphosa was desperate.
"No one expected that Magashule would write a letter on his own and suspend the president of the ANC, that is something we have never seen in our recent times," says Mathekga.
He adds that he won't be surprised if the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) decided to take harsher action against Magashule.
