Money paid by Digital Vibes to my son must be returned, says Mkhize─── 09:01 Wed, 09 Jun 2021
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize is adamant that the R300 000 paid to his son Dedani's company by communications company Digital Vibes must be returned.
Mkhize was placed on special leave pending an investigation by the Special Investigating Unit into the R150 million tender that was awarded to the communications company by the Health Department.
"This has made the family unhappy, and we are outraged by this and have had to sit down and have a discussion on that matter to indicate that that kind of relationship was inappropriate and at some point, the money needs to be returned.
“The issue was that it was based on a personal relationship. We have children at this age, who have relationships that we are not aware to what extent they go," said Mkhize.
It's also been revealed that the company purchased a second-hand bakkie for Dedani in the same period that the Health Department transferred R50 million into its bank account.
Mkhize’s close associates, Tahera Mather, and former personal assistant Naadhira Mitha are also implicated.
Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed Health Minister Zweli Mkhize’s decision to appear before the party’s integrity commission.
