South African world long jump champion Luvo Manyonga ended his 2018 season on a high note by claiming gold at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Zagreb on Tuesday evening.
A winning jump of 8.46 metres may not have been Manyonga's best leap ever but it did secure him the win as well as a new meeting record.
Even more remarkable is that he leaped to his victorious 8.46 meters on his opening jump of the evening beating his closest opponent by nearly a meter.
The resident of Paarl in the Western Cape now takes a well-deserved break as he will not be taking part in the Continental Cup in Ostrava this weekend due to his defeat to compatriot Ruswahl Samaai at the African Championships in Asaba, Nigeria last month.
