Piastri leads McLaren one-two at Miami Grand Prix─── MORGAN PIEK 08:32 Mon, 05 May 2025

It was a one-two finish for McLaren at the Miami Grand Prix in Florida, with young Australian driver Oscar Piastri claiming his fourth Formula 1 win in six races.
He also secured his third straight win after victories at the Bahrain Grand Prix and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. In fact, the only Grand Prix not won by McLaren this season was at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka where Max Verstappen reigned supreme, but Lando Norris was second and Piastri finished in third.
Piastri crossed the line to take the chequered flag 4.63 seconds ahead of teammate Norris after another flawless drive, having started fourth on the grid.
The podium was completed by George Russell of Mercedes, who managed to finish third ahead of reigning world champion and pole-sitter Verstappen of Red Bull.

Alex Albon also impressed, steering his Williams to a strong fifth-place finish. For Ferrari, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton ended the race in seventh and eighth, respectively.
Speaking after the win, Piastri said everything fell into place after a tough Saturday in the Sprint Race and Qualifying. “I won the race I really wanted to – yesterday was a tricky day.
“Obviously the Sprint was what it was, but Qualifying was probably one of my toughest sessions of the year. To come away with the win on Sunday is a great result. There was a bit of argy-bargy at Turn 1, which helped me out a bit, and I was alert enough to avoid Max coming through at Turn 1.

“From that point on, I knew I had a good pace and the car was unbelievable today.”
The win sees Piastri move up to 131 points in the Drivers’ Standings, 16 points clear of Norris in second. Verstappen remains on 99 points, but is starting to feel the pressure from Russell, who’s now on 93.
McLaren are beginning to take control of the Constructors’ Championship, sitting on 246 points. Mercedes is second with 141, while Red Bull are third with 105.
The next stop on the calendar is the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Italy, taking place from 16 to 18 May.
