Free State ready to defend North vs. South title─── MORGAN PIEK 15:16 Thu, 03 Oct 2019
The 2019 North vs. South Inter-interprovincial Challenge will be taking place on Saturday at the Tempe Motocross track on the outskirts of Bloemfontein, and the pressure will be on the defending champions and hosts, Free State.
The event sees each province sending five riders in each class to compete at the track which is regarded as the best in South Africa.
The hosts, Free State, are the defending champions and the former South African champion, and current team captain, Tyson Engelbrecht, told OFM Sport that they will have a target on their backs.
“Free State Motocross had a really successful 2018. It saw us having a few Free State representatives in the South Africa team at the African Championships, with some amazing results.
“Free State also managed to win the North vs. South for the first time.
“As any champion knows, the second championship is always the hardest to win. The boys have really been putting some hard work this year, and I believe that we are more than capable of winning again.
“The other provinces are bringing some really solid teams and I am sure that they will be wanting to regain some former glory.
“I think that we can bring the challenge to them and hopefully come out on top.
“We are looking forward to some exciting racing this weekend across age group at Tempe. If anyone is in the area, come about and support.
“We would greatly appreciate it, and I am sure you will enjoy all the action there is to be seen on the track.”
The qualification will start at 7:00 on Saturday morning with the first heat at 10:30.
