Non-contact sport to resume as from Monday─── 16:38 Thu, 28 May 2020
As from Monday professional sport will be allowed to resume in South Africa as the country moves into Level 23 of the national Covid-19 lockdown.
On Thursday afternoon the government announced that certain sporting codes may resume, however, for now this only applies to non-contact sport.
This spells good news for sporting codes such as golf, cricket and the likes of.
It remains to be seen which codes will be permitted as South Africa is in the winter season for most non-contact sports.
Rugby, football and other codes will remain suspended, however, the respective governing bodies are trying to arrange that their teams can at least start practicing, albeit under strict conditions.
The sports minister Nathi Mthethwa would provide more details on the return to non-contact sport protocol in due course.
