The 20-year-old Shaun Maswanganyi has qualified for the men's 100 and 200m for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, later in the year.

The sprinter, who runs in the colours of the University of Houston in Texas is the third South African sprinter to qualify for the Summer Games.

Maswanganyi qualified by running 10.04 seconds over the 100m on Sunday, while the half-lap sprinter clocked a time on 20.19 seconds, without the assistance of any wind.

A few weeks ago, Maswanganyi, ran an unofficial South African record in the 100m sprint in 9.87 seconds. This time was not considered for a national record as the tail-wind exceeded the permissible standard.
