Coetzee excited ahead of Paralympics─── MORGAN PIEK 10:12 Wed, 11 Aug 2021
The world record holder from Bloemfontein, Louzanne Coetzee, is eager and ready for her second Paralympic Games, which were begin in Tokyo later in the month.
Coetzee, who was disqualified in the T11 1500m in Rio de Janeiro five years ago wants to set the record straight in Japan and she will also be heading for unknown territory.
The blind runner, with the assistance of Estean Badenhorst and Claus Kempen will take part in the 1500m again, while she will also compete in the marathon.
Coetzee told OFM Sport that they cannot wait to go to the Land of the Rising Sun.
“We are super excited to go. We've been waiting for this for quite some time, and we are really excited for it to finally happen.
“In a certain sense, it feels unreal because for such a long time there was uncertainty if it's going to happen and how.
“We are very excited to go and I am very much excited for a great race. I have been preparing hard and things have been going well with the prep, so I'm excited to go and represent South Africa.
“We never hope for a DQ, so let’s hope that things don't go the same way.
“I will be doing two events. I will do the 1500m with Estean Badenhorst as my guide, and then I will be doing the marathon with Claus Kempen.
“My main focus is the 1500 and I'm super excited to be going soon. I can't wait.”
The 2020 Paralympics will get underway on 24 August.
