UFS and NWU to face each other in Varsity Netball semi─── MORGAN PIEK 09:02 Tue, 04 Oct 2022
The round-robins of the Varsity Netball wrapped up in Bloemfontein on Monday night and the University of the Free State and North-West University are through to the semi-finals.
Maties remained unbeaten with a 65-33 win over UWC and they will face UJ in the semi-finals after Oranje Army beat the two-time champions Tuks, 53-51.
In the last round-robin match, Kovsies fought back to beat NWU 65-60 and moved up to third in the standings.
Sne Mdletshe added the extra intensity the Kovsies midcourt needed in the second half and in the processed earned herself a third player of the match performance in the last few of weeks.
Following the win, the former Free State Crinums captain Mdletshe said they didn’t do themselves any favours in during the Pretoria leg of the Varsity Netball.
“I’m tired but I knew what they needed from me, I just had to be there for my team. This was massive for us. We didn’t do ourselves justice at the beginning of the tournament, but we have to trust the process.”
The Kovsies will face NWU in the semi-finals.
Both semi-finals will be played next week Monday.
