FIA finds Red Bull and Aston Martin guilty of financial breaches─── MORGAN PIEK 07:55 Tue, 11 Oct 2022
The FIA has found Red Bull and Aston Martin guilty of breaching the Formula 1 financial rules.
Following a review, the motor sports governing body found that the team the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, drives for is guilty of a minor overspend, while Aston Martin is guilty of breaching the financial regulations.
Seven of the ten teams had complied with the cost cap, while with Williams there was a previous procedural breach.
In a statement, the FIA confirmed that Red Bull, Aston Martin and Williams haven’t complied with the financial regulations.
"Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team is considered to be in Procedural Breach of the Financial Regulations;
"Oracle Red Bull Racing is considered to be in Procedural and Minor Overspend Breaches of the Financial Regulations; and
"Williams Racing has complied with the Financial Regulations in respect of the 2021 Reporting Period with the exception of a previous procedural breach in regard to which the Cost Cap Administration entered into an ABA with Williams in May 2022. This procedural breach was then remediated by Williams in a timely, cooperative and transparent manner."
The FIA has also confirmed that any punishment will be decided at a later date. It is unlikely that Verstappen - who won his second world champion title at Suzuka in Japan on Sunday - will be stripped of his title.
