On Sunday, the Dutch driver won his home Grand Prix in very difficult conditions because of rain to win his ninth straight race and he equalled the F1 record of Sebastian Vettel.

The two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, was back on the podium by finishing in second, while Pierre Gasly took third.

The win moves Verstappen up to 339 points in the drivers’ standings and he is followed by Sergio Perez and Alonso.

Following his record-equalling win, Verstappen said he was proud to win it a ninth time at home.

“It’s incredible,” said race-winner Verstappen.

“Also today, they didn’t make it easy for us with the weather, to make the right calls all the time. I’m incredibly proud.

“I already had goosebumps when they were playing the national anthem before the start. Even with all the bad weather, the rain, the fans were still going at it, so an incredible atmosphere.”

This week it's the Italian Grand Prix at the Temple of Speed, Monza.
