“It’s of course incredible to win my 50th Grand Prix here as well - very proud of course and we will just keep on trying to push for more.”
The three-time World Champion, Max Verstappen, has won his 50th Formula 1 race by winning the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas on Sunday.
Verstappen who started the race in 6th worked this way through the field to claim a hat-trick of victories at the event.
The seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, finished in second, however the Mercedes driver was disqualified following a post-race inspection which revealed excessive wear on the skids of his car. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari was also disqualified following the post-race inspection.
Lando Norris, who was competing in his 100th race, was bumped up to second, while Carlos Sainz took third.
Verstappen said it was one of his harder wins of the season, but ultimately delighted to have record a 50th career win.
“It’s of course incredible to win my 50th Grand Prix here as well - very proud of course and we will just keep on trying to push for more,” said Verstappen.
“I think the whole race I was struggling a lot with the brakes. Around here there are quite a few braking points so I couldn’t really have the same feeling as yesterday. So, that made my race a bit tougher out there today.
“You could see it was very close in the end and there were also the backmarkers. When the tyres are already going it makes it a bit more difficult.”
The teams now head to Mexico City for Sunday’s Mexico Grand Prix at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
