McLaren’s dominance of the 2025 Formula 1 season continued on Sunday, with the team securing yet another one-two finish at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.

Oscar Piastri took the chequered flag for his fifth win of the season, while teammate Lando Norris followed closely in second place.

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari rounded out the podium in third, largely due to poor race management from Red Bull, which saw Max Verstappen finish down in fifth. Verstappen was later hit with a ten-second time penalty for deliberately colliding with Mercedes’ George Russell, dropping him to tenth place and widening the gap to the McLaren drivers in the championship standings.

Following his win, the Australian driver Piastri acknowledged that reigning world champion Verstappen had pushed them hard throughout the race. “Obviously, a great start and a strong first stint meant I could set up the rest of the race more comfortably.

“Getting through all the traffic was tough – the dirty air starts affecting you from three or four seconds back, which makes a big difference.

“It was tricky at times, but when I needed to push and show some pace, I was able to do that. I think I managed the Safety Car at the end pretty well, and I knew I had the pace to stay in front. A great weekend overall.

“It was a bit of a surprise to see Max go for a three-stop strategy. It nearly worked for him, but fortunately, things went our way. I’m really proud of the work the team put in this weekend.

“FP1 wasn’t the best, but we got our act together. After the disappointment in Monaco, it’s been a fantastic way to bounce back.”

Next week, the teams head to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix.
